After reading so many amazing reviews on many food forums about this newly opened Royal Dining Experience, I was eager to visit them and I made sure I did that at the first opportunity I got.

Enquired about Sunday’s menu & the dishes on that menu sent to me by Jagruti tempted me even more to visit them, especially Malpua and Kabuli.

Reached there at 1.30 PM and surprisingly there was no waiting.

Ambience :

Beautiful crafted Elephant head in white Metal..

Located at the Upmarket and Posh Pavillion Mall, it has an unmistakable royal touch to its decor. It has two dining sections, no major difference in both, except outer part has typical Indian low sitting. I am really fond of low sitting dining so settled for the outer space. It was cozy and comfortable, just as I like it.

They have kept one chair where you can click the pictures adorning Safa & Chundri, super concept as I felt back at home in Jodhpur. Loved the intricate white metal work on chair, and in fact entrance gate handles also have elephant shaped carving of white metal agsin speciality of Jodhpur and carving which lends the decor much needed royal touch to suit the name.

Coming on to the food, despite some small improvement areas, this for sure is one of the best Thalis that I have eaten at Pune till date.

Menu:

Sweets – Aamras, Gulab Halwa & Rabdi Malpua

Having a sweet tooth & being a Jodhpuri, I love to start any meal with a sweet. Just loved all the sweets to the core. Sweetness was just perfect for both Halwa & Malpua. They infact were the showstoppers of this huge thali.

Gulab Halwa is the signature dish of their head Maharaja Gulab….

Farsan – Pakiza, Ring Dhokla and Misal.

Again bang on with the taste. Pakiza was really yummy, Dhokla was soft with lovely chatni on side and even the Misal tasted decent.

Veggies –
Paneer Achari : Though the Sabji was really tasty with matar in it but I had some other perception about the name Achari Paneer. I was expecting it to be more tangy and spicy to suit the Achari tag.

Flower Masala : Good preparation but nothing great.

Aloo Raswala : Again a very good preparation. I was expecting dahi wale aloo to go with this sort of Thali but that doesn’t matter, I loved it nonetheless.

Pindi Chhole : No, it was not Pindi Chhole, again a totally different preparation from the name. It was kale chane in curd gravy, however tasted amazing.

Gujju Dal or Spicy Dal : We had the spicy version, It wasn’t sweet and moderately spiced for our tastebuds, tasted good.

Kadhi : Awesome Kadhi; Little Khatti Slightly tikkhi, just the way I like it. Drank 2 vati kadhi, and still wanted more but other stuff was also supposed to be finished. So had to give up on the tempetation.

Fulka : Hot & Soft
Masala Koba Roti : Good one
Missi Poori : Typical Rajasthani Style, loved it.

Jodhpuri Kabuli Pulav : It was not the typical kabuli as we make it in Jodhpur. Veggies were really scarce and It really lacked authenticity. Usually Ratalu is used in it but with time few people have started using Potatoes along with Ratalu. Along with that Gatta, Bread, Kaju, Dankh, Matar (all fried) & few seasonal veggies along with pomegranate is used. It is then mixed with the curd gravy. I felt few basic masalas including garam masala were missing too which brought the tste down from what it should be. #Disappointed as was really looking forward to this one.

Khichadi : Good, as it should be.

Welcome Drink : Kesar Sharbat. Yes, a very refreshing drink. I sipped it slowly with my food to water down all the heavy stuff.

Chaas : Good one.

Along with that we had 2 Chutneys, Papad & Achaar. Accompaniments were yummy too.

I loved the way they gave the warm water to wash hands before we started eating, followed by Dakshina for Cows, though they gave coins to put inside the gullak but still we preferred to donate little from our side for the amazing cause. Then the food followed

Service :

Staff is really courteous. They knew how to do manwaar, a typical Rajasthani hospitality ritual.

Only thing which I did not like that my son was still having the food & they brought the bill. We did not say anything that time & waited for my son to finish his food but again when he came to our table I told him to wait till he finishes his food. This put me off but with almost everything in place this could be ignored.

Frankly it didn’t matter if the mentioned dishes were way too different from there name tags but overall food was good.

However, they should work on naming the dishes correctly as it creates an impression just to see the dishes on menu and you make up your mind accordingly. No serious complaints as I liked the food, even my daughter who is a choosy eater, for the first time finished everything on her plate .

Priced at Rs 500 + GST,
value for money is one’s personal perception…

It was indeed a good experience, they should however up their game some more as they are expensive when compared to other famous and good Thali places in town.

Shahji Parantha, Apte Road, Pune

#Shahjiparantha

“Mann bhar ke khaya” is what I will say….

Thanks to Chef Rahull & entire team of Shahji parantha to make us comfortable…

Just one thing which I feel can be improved… they should give little more place between 2 sitting, sometimes it feel clumsy & for group like us a corner place or separate place…

We went to apte road branch..
1205/4, Apte Rd, Deccan Gymkhana, Pune,

Caffa, Baner Road, Pune

Google & you will find answer..

I love & prefer to clarify my general doubts on Google… It’s like search & read & like….

It’s ok till I search content or topic on Google.. it’s fun
But..
If u have to search ingredient in a particular dish which is so common than it’s a trouble….

CAFFA Cafe, Baner road..

This cafe doesn’t want me to leave my habit of googling things & this time it’s ingredients… Usually prefer to avoid things but if you go with blundered mood than a pinch of salt can irritate you..

We ordered

1) Bombay Club sandwich(80) : With nicely grilled but with basic aloo onion Masala, it was soo flat that first I googled details what is Bombay club sandwich & than I googled veggies in  between two bread pieces…. Not at all happy…

2) Virgin Mojito(130): It was just extra sweet lime juice nothing else.. usually i don’t like to replace our food but that day we did & replacement was as it is flat in taste & flavour…. I googled to know what exactly mojito is.. & this was no where close to it.. it lacked that punch.. Sad… 🙁

3) Choco frappè (120): only drink which was good, which I liked….

Place : CAFFA, Baner road

Ambience : Nice

VFM : I need to Google it..

Overall not a good eperience …..

Dil Se Dilli, Baner , Pune

Jate the japan pahoonch gaye cheen Samaj gayena….
This is exactly happened.. planned for some other place but landed at some other for dinner….
We Landed at “Dil Se Dilli” ..
A small eating joint.. simple yet elegant Cafe… I was very much impressed with the cutlery & presentation….
Menu in itself is really tempting… it took me back to north… it’s not a typical delhi menu but  a typical north Indian affair… Few things though we didn’t try but yes I never found in any resutrant in pune..
One to mention is Nagori Aloo.. it’s small size special poori with dahi wale aloo… Very yummy dish which we cook at home especially mom cooked is super delicious..  it’s for my next trip..
Today we tried following dishes…

1) Tikki Chole : yummy… yes perfectly cooked aloo tikki with dal stuffing served with Chole, dahi & chutnis….. 4 tikki in one portion is good but didn’t did the justice with dal stuffing. I felt that rather than 4 small tikki if 2 with more stuffing is served than we can taste stuffing too… but still good dish…
Price : 149

2) Paneer Tikka Combo thali : 2 pc of well marinated & grilled tikka with good quantity of yummy & quiet authentic dal makhani, raita , 1 pc of super soft gulabjamun & 2 butter naan is a good option of limited Punjabi thali…
We loved dal makhani the most..
Price : Rs 259
3) Chole Bhature : 2 pc of Bhatura with Punjabi Chole was total value for money.. though tasty in their own way but outcasted by other dishes…
Price : Rs 79

4) Paneer Seek Kebab : Hero of entire lunch.. super yummy with awesome taste & perfectly grilled .. loved the slight smoky taste… Total value for money… Will go back for this dish…Price : Rs 170

Overall good & yummy food….

Horn Ok Please, FC Road, Pune

Yes name say blow the horn… wave to them & leave saying ok please… we are not interested…

I always appericate the hard work behind any activity especially when its cooking…. but sometimes you are not too positive…Seriously.. don’t want to say this but today’s experience was like this only. I always liked their cleanliness, ambience & food. Today when decided to go for lunch, I was quite excited that going back after a year or more…

But seriously today was not my day..

We asked for “matar kaju” & “chatpata Paneer” that too in medium spicy gravy. After food was served I doubted myself whether knowledge of my Hindi has gone for toss or still it’s there.. but it was there.. but food failed…

Trust me chatpata paneer was sweet & the gravy has the taste of not properly cooked tomato, I doubt if they had used freshly ground tomato paste rather than puree… same goes with kaju matar But we didn’t cribbed for that giving benefit of doubt.

Ups & downs are part of any cooking, understanding this for chatpata paneer , we called the person & told him about our problem & he promised us to get new preparation in medium spicy gravy.. ok but when dish came it was difficult to eat…

We felt that he added only red chilli powder in gravy like we see in movies .. ohh man.. it was difficult to eat.. we told him but he was not ready to accept that something is wrong though he offered to change our dish second time ( I appreciate him for the same). But by that time we lost interest in food…

I tried to talk to Captain or from management team but no one was avaliable. For us, yes day was not meant for us. I felt that their quality or service has fall down since i had visited them last.

Pls note I may not be a trained chef but yes I am cook at my place & I do cook good & could make out little what’s the problem.

So overall not happy with the food today…

VFM : Not at all….

Food Review :FALHAAR, Baner, Pune

Food i feel prepares you to face all kind of situation…. Valid for me also….

want to start my food review section on positive note…..

Yes indeed one of the best time I spend in last a month with the bunch of equally maddening girl gang.. Those jokes, laughter made me forget all my tensions & prepared me for coming days.

This madness was supported by few shots (Hum Tum aur…) & Awesome food…

Jamun Shot
Pic Courtsey : Google

Mango Blast
Pic Courtsey : Google

Jamun Shots: oh my my, they had not changed since the falhaar is started till this new place, opp hotel green park. It’s taste makes u drink second without fail…

Mango Blast : It was ordered by friend but it was almost finished in just few mins before it reached her.. Awesome.. A must try…

Pav Bhaji : one of the best pav bhaji available in my area as far as my knowledge is concerned…

Grilled Sandwich : not aware with the name as ordered by gang but taste was too gud….

Taste : Food was good..

Ambience : it’s simple but gud…

Staff : Very nice.. infact will like to appreciate their patience, with 16 ladies together along with few other guests & with smile they were accepting our order (frankly smile was due to courtesy or due to our non stop jokes & giggles, I am not sure but whatever is the reason they were smiling). So I think 1/4 battle already won..

VFM: I always believe value for money is one’s perception.. for me it is.It costed us 250/head where I think all had gone for min 2 shots, pav bhaji, few sandwich & 3 or 4 mocktails.

For me it’s was wonderful break…

Keep it up team FALHAAR…..

Indian Railway Confirmed Ticket Transfer Process

  1. Once in a while we all back out from our travel plan in the moment. Bigger problem comes in picture when u have confirmed ticket which by default will be cancelled & others who were travelling are either in RAC or WL. Best part comes when all have confirmed ticket but the ticket which we want to cancel is lower berth & all others are not. Try to recall what all permutation & combination takes place in our thought process. (more…)

A little Birdie…

Birdie trying to settle & adjust in her new adobe. Adobe which is far from her first home ,not only in terms of distance but also in terms of mental thought process (a first thought in her mind). She is bit nervous , how she will adjust here . YES… Here at her new home ,she is feeling that purposely lot of road blocks are created for her not only in physical form but more in mental form that too in their mind. It’s just not the perception of what people will say but more for their comfort level or their benefit. She is in dilemma how to cope up. In this family people are not able to accept her as an individual leave about accepting their simple mistakes like verbal abuse, mental abuse, being judgemental etc without realising what is their standing & how its affecting her. Just she has to adjust as she is from other home. Not only her but also her parents. How mean… 🙁

SAD !!!!!!

This trauma is faced by many girls in today’s time also. Though we claim that it’s 21st century ,still it happens &  mostly behind the door. People are soo self centered I realised after listening to this Birdie’s tale. Few are her own & few were shared with her. How so called  literate people, well off people can be insane. It will wrong to judge anyone’s mental status with their social status. Just that in lower class people are less literate usually things are wide open where as in upper or middle upper or even middle class things are under the wrap.

How we are able to change this, I firmly believe that change start from own … Stop expecting, yes.. If expectation is meet than that will lead to a notch higher expectation & if not meet, leads to array of abuses….. Both the cases are extreme. Though easy to say & difficult to live, a genuine try is must.. 🙂

Will be back with few tales from different birdies…..

First International Trip : The great kebab Factory

 The Great Kabab Factory

You salivate when thinking about a particular food, it means it has activated your gastronomical pleasures. Even while writing this I am experiencing the same, I went back into the delicious memory of those aromatic, tantalising, full of spices yummy kebabs.

Its 2.5 months back during my Bangkok trip, When we were informed that an Indian restaurant is booked exclusively for us for our lunch, first thing in my mind came cool, something of our taste but was not sure about the taste of food, will it trigger our taste buds or not as my last 3 meals were good but not great, (great in my definition is which gives u feeling of satisfaction even after eating little). Still trusting our host we reach to the restaurant “The Great Kabab Factory” which is in the premises of Majestic Grand Hotel.

IMG_20140420_181922 (480x355)

As soon as I entered inside the Restaurant & first thing is WOW!! Beautiful interiors, Soothing Indian Ambience, Awesome aroma of spices. I took deep breathe. Half battle won by them. U somehow feel that you are standing in some posh restaurant in India. It was lovely. Even weather was in our favour. Its black clouds all around, little drizzling when we reached & later nice shower… wow… outer part of restaurant has open space with small fountain at one corner & nice sitting. I soaked myself little in the rain. Amazing experience.

Hospitality was good. After Settling down we were asked about the preferences of food (veg/non veg). Being vegetarian I was served Sabz Galauti Kababs  with ulte tawa ka Parantha… OHH man, one of the best kebab I had ever eaten. They just melt in your mouth. Even paneer was so fresh & soft that u feel like eating again n again. I got so lost in eating the kebabs that it didn’t clicked to me that main course is also waiting for me. I was too full but still tasted the main course & loved their Dal.

Veg Galauti kebab

Seekh Kebab

Typical Ghar ka sawad which was followed by gulabjamun. WOW!! Is just very small to describe my feeling & the level of satisfaction. This was followed by our very own Masala Chai. What a deadly combination… Rains, Kebabs & Masala Chai.

20160430_142501 (480x360)

Beautiful outside sitting

Their flavours & taste was so amazing that after getting back to India I came in contact with them to know what makes their kebabs so amazing & whether its same in India also or just for offshore. What I came to know was very interesting & something with which I was not aware.

Its after Mongols invasion in Hindukush in 14th century, kabab changed their appearance n taste from just a barbequed salted meat to spiced & barbequed delicious smoky kebabs.

Secret recipe is the key factor in TGKF which owns owns a recipe bank of over 450 kababs that includes many closely guarded family recipes passed down through the ages. Our chefs have mastered this through extended travel to remote areas and after a decade of extensive research and development. The best part all the outlet use TGKF proprietary ‘Spice Packs’ which gives consistency of taste & quality to dish worldwide.

Unique service style is another key factor of TGKF .A different menu is set for each day except their signature kabab as the Galauti and the Burrah. Culinary journey at TGKF begins with fresh salad topped with dressing followed by the repertoire of six varieties of rusty & smoky kababs 20160430_142436 (360x480)accompanied with butter milk. In the main course, you are served daal factory, daal tadka, biryani, and the best of seasonal vegetables, vegetarian or non-vegetarian curries along with exotic Indian breads. To end this royal meal, you are served an assortment of sumptuous and delightful desserts. You carry these tastes till your next visit. There few of most famous kebabas are Subz Galauti ,Kuti Kali Mirch Paneer,Tandoori Bharwan Aloo &  Achari Khumbh in veg. In Non-vegetarian Galauti Kabab,Burrah Kabab, Amritsari Macchi & Jalandhari Chooza

It is the part of UMAK Hospitality an arm of UMAK investments. They opened their first outlet in Delhi at Radisson Blue Hotel in 1996. There after their journey started & no looking back after that. Graced with lots of awards their consistency in their food has bought them to this stage. Maintaining the consistent quality, taste & service, the top management gives credit to their dedicated corporate operations team who do lot of R&D & then enter into the specific market. Quiet interesting….

First International Trip : pt3 BANGKOK

room & view (480x480)

MY hotel, My room & view

hotel (480x480)

Top : Welcome Goodies left bottom : lights in hotel right bottom: Thai sweet & Green tea pastry with red velvet cake.

My hour long travel from Suvarnbhumi Airport to Hotel Centara Grand was with lots of mixed feelings…Comparatively small country but nice building, there was traffic jam while going towards my hotel. Finally reached our adobe for 2 days. With warm welcome by beautiful Thai girls dressed in traditional Thai outfit with coconut water & beautiful orchid garland. U will find a huge variety of Orchids in Thailand. Even while coming back u can purchase Orchids on Airport. Considered as one of the best hotel, Grand Centara was indeed up to the mark. Loved the room located on 40th floor facing swimming pool & few beautiful buildings.

Getting good veg food there is a problem as you get limited options to explore, but if you are a non-vegetarian or even eggitarian than you can explore lot of options. In total food was good. I liked there Thai sweet which has the egg in it. Also I liked there green tea flavoured Pastry, this was a new flavour for me. We got the opportunity to dine in their two restaurants “The World” & “Ginger”. I liked there lobby at level 22. There is one corner for the artist where few paintings were there on the display.  Loved the décor of the hotel. Simple yet charming, it attracted me.

20160429_151010 (360x480)20160429_151046 (360x480)

Attached to the Hotel was the Central World, world’s 6th largest mall. To explore it you need complete one day. I just took the walk on 2 floors but saw the entire ground floor where I loved the collection by “NARAYA” which has bags & other daily use stuff in clothes only. There is one small area converted into the chocolate park with huge tree of Ferro rocher & lot of animals carved from chocolate. It was awesome.

I even explored half of the 7th floor as it caters to super market. I did all my chocolate shopping from there only. To promote tourism here u get your VAT back but only if u shop from the participating shops. Market which caters to local business like MBK & Platinum doesn’t have this facility else Siam Paragon & Central world has. Other mall which I got chance to explore is MBK. I  t also has 7 floors. Top floor Movie Theatre & few shops. What I get to know with my experience is more deep towards back u go, the better deal u will get. For souvenirs I found one shop on 7th floor as soon as I step down from escalator where I found things cheap than other shops. .. 5th floor is dedicated to mobile & Accessories. I again picked few typical Thai dress but I went deep inside… over all it was a nice experience. I got the feedback from people that for few things Platinum is cheaper as that mall was started to give local people a place for wholesale & retail dealing. Also go n visit the night market which is not very great but a good experience.

While travelling to wards the reclining Buddha Temple which is third biggest temple in Bangkok, we pass through the “The Grand Palace”, a spectacular building which use to be the home of King of Thailand, now used for all ceremonial & auspicious happenings.

20160430_111657 (360x480)                                   20160430_112001 (480x360)20160430_113658 (360x480)

20160430_113009 (480x360)

The reclining Buddha is 46 feet long & 15 meters tall. They have 3 more layers below the layer of gold first being brick, second plaster & cement and the third is
black lacquer. The feet of Buddha are 5 metres long & has pearls & all other precious stones embedded in it. In fact pillow below Buddha’s head also has pearl & precious stones embedded in it. 108 is considered as auspicious number in Hindus, the same way it is considered as the auspicious number in Thailand. In this temple there are 108 brass bowls are kept where in each bowl u can put coin which are available at the gate. They  say it full fill your wishes.

20160430_111600 (480x360) This temple is also considered as the “the leading school of mass20160430_115743 (480x360)
age “. On the back side of temple there is huge premises which leads towards massage school. It also has 4 Chapels there, made in the remembrance of four old kings. They are the mix of Thai & Chinese cultures. A good quiet place to roam around especially the part which caters chapel. Like Indian temples here also we have to remove our shoes outside the temple.

Bangkok’s Chinatown is popular tourist attraction and a food heaven for new generation gourmands who flock here after sunset to explore the vibrant street side cuisine. At day time, it’s no less busy, as hordes of shoppers descend upon this approx. 1 km stretch and Charoenkrung Road to get a day’s worth of staple, trade gold or pay a visit to one of the Chinese temple. The back street of this china town is also very popular as it caters to second hand goods, car accessories & usually crowded on weekends resulting in traffic jams.

20160430_110455 (360x480)20160430_110717 (360x480)We passed through the road where we saw these beautiful structures & a circle with beautiful carving. Here on special occasions like Royal Families’ birthday or anniversary or mother’s day etc. they display their pics along with the family pics in these structures which has place for pics. In fact our guide told us that here people wear very less gold but they purchase gold for their king & queen. Evening we headed for the cruise dinner on Chao Pharaya River which is in the heart of the city. U can see Rama 1Bridge, Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), The Royal Grand Palace (Wat Pra Kaew), Rama VIII Bridge…, all look
so beautiful. Thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. In fact I enjoyed every bit of my tour including typical Indian food that too in Bangkok. Yes, u read it right delicious Indian food. It was at “The Great Kebab Factory “. Authentic Indian taste & food was so yumm that you definitely want to visit them again & again. I simply loved the food that I decided to talk to them & want to have detail about them… so wait for next blog….

I missed going to few places like Jewels palace which has huge variety of pearls & semi-precious stones along with few souvenirs & Thai crockery, The weekend market “Chatuchak”, the floating market, Ocean world… now which is my must visit list.

Along with my special lunch at “ The Great Kebab Factory “ , I got in touch with so many lovely ladies & learned lot of  good things from them. Also I got the chance to be the part of the show by internationally claimed EHUD SEGEV “The Mentalizer”. He has super powers to get connect to your mind & literally play with your thoughts. He can actually read you r thoughts. It was the Show stopper in my entire tour.

Before coming to end on this part I really like to thank our Host  & it was wonderful to meet few youngsters (Sunaina, Pratikshya, Shashank, Anshu) from the organising team & no doubt their their boss (Simranjit) who at the end of our trip will love his wife more than before (for being less confused).

More on “the Great Kebab Factory” soon……
